Dr. Evans Nyatigo Ongaga

Dr. Evans Nyatigo Ongaga, a holder of Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership is currently working with New Haven Unified School District. Born to a minor family on 6th March 1970 in Nyamira County Kenya with 10 siblings, his parents were not rich but struggled to get-by. Evans’ father, Stanley Ongaga Orina popularly known as Mokunyo was an elementary-middle school teacher while his mother practiced peasantry. 

Evans started his Nursery school at Ramba Primary, Nyamira County Kenya in 1976. He Subsequently attended Standards 1 – 7 in Ramba Primary School and Forms 1 – 6 in  Nyansiongo High School. He received his Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree in Economics and History from Moi University (Maseno College), Kenya in 1990, MBA (Management in Information Systems) from Armstrong University, Oakland California, and Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from University of Phoenix Arizona.

Evidently, the high failure rates of small businesses in the United States, and the alarming trend may continue to affect the U.S. economy adversely despite the significance of the small businesses. Approximately 50% of starting small businesses cease operations within the first 5 years.  In the wake of this necessity, business management exponent, Dr.  Ongaga used a qualitative phenomenological intrinsic study to explore the lived experiences of  Small Business owner-leaders who experienced failure of small businesses in San Jose, CA. Evans worked at St. Mathias Mulumba High school as a Business Education graduate teacher after Bachelors Degree (1994 – 1998).  In 2001, Evans joined and worked with the Silicon Valley high tech companies, including Applied Materials, Coherent Laser Group, The Home Depot and Silicon valley Engineering Group, where he held positions of expedites, import and export processing, project and logistic manager respectively. Also, from 2010, he worked with San Jose Unified School District and Aspire Public Schools. Evans successfully defended and published his research dissertation ” Failure of Small Businesses in San Jose, California: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study” before Chair and Committee Members in 2016.
